Generally in the United States and in Europe, students are given a break through most of the summer months. During this time there are a lot of students that would be have been a part of a graduation ceremony in their various high schools and would now have their sights set on a post-secondary education once fall hits. A lot of schools and other institutions especially in the US and EU offer pre college programs for these students, to help them achieve something tangible during these months as they eagerly await their freshman year in college.

These pre-college programs have a lot of offer and sacrificing a bit of spare time to attend one of these programs could make the transition from high school to college just a bit smoother. This list is by no means exhausted, but here are a few of the advantages of attending a pre-college program in the summer.

  • Relieve Anxiety
    The months preceding the debut of your college career is one filled with mixed feelings for most high school children. Anxieties, nervousness, fear and excitement are amongst a few of the feelings. Enrolling in a program that allows you to get a good taste of college life before you begin the work laden semester at college would go a long way in helping to alleviate some of the anxiety. The program allows you to get comfortable with the environment, the rules and general life on campus.
  • Brush up your math skills
    If you would taking an academic oriented pre-college program, then you would be able to keep your academic skills sharp and stay on top of your game before the semester begins. It would introduce you to the dynamics of being a student in a university environment. Here you would realize the difference between a university professor and your high school teacher.
  • Find a hobby
    This is more important than you think, because the pressure will mount up during the course of the semester and many college students have a hard time relaxing and end up downhill in many aspects of their college life. A pre-college program can help you find your happy place amongst the turmoil of assignments and tests. Not that you should not do your studying, but during your pre-college program you might join a soccer team, a chess club or even find that friend that helps you keep your sanity during the semester.

College life can be intimidating. The system is unfamiliar to most high school students and adjusting might be a challenge. Taking a pre-college program in the preceding summer could really make a difference.
